Sergio Ramos, who joined Paris Saint-Germain this summer from Real Madrid, continues to wait for his debut under Mauricio Pochettino because of a series of muscle injuries. The central defender left Los Blanco after his contract was allowed to expire. He was brought into the French capital as someone with leadership pedigree and title winning experience who could help them win continental titles. During his time at Bernabeu, the Spaniard had developed a reputation of being one of the best defenders in the world.

He helped the Los Blancos to five La Liga titles, two Spanish Cups and four Champions League winners medals, as well as winning two European Championships and the FIFA World Cup with the national team. But his final year in Spain was marred with injuries as he could manage to make only 15 appearances because of injuries. And then, club president Florentino Perez allowed him to depart at the end of his contract since they were looking to freshen up things at the back.

Therefore the 35-year-old joined PSG who have made some high profile signings this summer to win the Champions League. Lionel Messi joined the French club from Barcelona on a free transfer after the unfortunate events in Cap Nou while midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum came in from Liverpool. But unlike the rest of the new arrivals, Ramos is still to make his debut for the French capital club. Messi had a below-par start to his life after Barcelona, failing to score in the first four games, but netted against Manchester City in the Champions League encounter to open his new account.

According to Marca, Ramos has a problem in his left leg, which has yet to heal despite him suffering it ahead of the Champions League semi-final match against Chelsea. The injury is reportedly restricting him at PSG and the medical team has advised him to take rest.

The Spaniard is not someone who is prone to injuries and throughout his career he has managed to keep himself match fit on a regular basis. He hasn’t had too many long term injuries in his career. Therefore PSG wouldn’t have expected this kind of a situation. Pochettino had hoped to have Ramos available at the start of the season but multiple setbacks have seen his return dates delayed.

It is learned that Ramos had attempted to push his body despite the medics advising him to take rest. And the Spaniard continually faced problems whenever he tried to progress with his leg training. The 35-year-old is known as a warrior on the football field and it is no surprise that he is desperate to get back on the field. But the PSG medics have made it clear that he risks long-term injury if he rushes back.

Although the veteran defender is now able to do his core training it is still unclear when he will be able to make his debut for his new club.

“He’s in a recovery period,” Pochettino said when asked why Ramos was yet to make his debut for the Ligue 1 table-toppers.

“Logically a player wants to play as soon as possible and what makes him [Ramos] happy is playing on the pitch.

“There is no specific date or time when he will be available again, but we’re optimistic he will be with us soon.”
