Struggling Schalke will host RB Leipzig in a Bundesliga fixture at Veltins-Arena on Tuesday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, while Leipzig played out a thrilling 1-1 draw against leaders Bayern Munich on the same day. Schalke are currently languishing at the bottom of the 18-team standings, having collected just nine points from 16 games. The visitors, meanwhile, are sitting at the fifth position, with 29 points to their name, just one behind the top-four.
🗣️ Marco Rose:
“Schalke played really well in Frankfurt. It will be a tough game tomorrow. They play with real intensity and fight extremely hard. They will really test us.”#S04RBL pic.twitter.com/r0kxjK2aeS

Schalke have by far been the worst performing side in the German top flight this season, having recorded just two wins thus far. Their last victory came against VFL Bochum early in September. Last time out, Knappen conceded three times against Frankfurt, courtesy of strikes from Jesper Lindstorm, Rafael Mauray and Aureillo Buta. It was Schalke’s 11th Bundesliga defeat of the campaign. Meanwhile, Thomas Reis’ side have conceded 35 goals in the league, making them the second worst defensive unit in the German top flight, behind Bochum (37).Â
Leipzig, on the other hand, are in stunning form, having not tasted defeat in their last 15 games across all competitions. The Red bulls resumed competitive action following the World Cup break with an impressive draw against Bayern at home. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting put the Bavarians ahead in the 37th-minute, before Marcel Halstenberg equalised for Leipzig, seven minutes into the second half. The result ended the Red Bulls’ six game winning streak across all competitions. Die Roten Bullen will end the month with a home-game against VFB Stuttgart next Saturday. Meanwhile Leipzig are set to host Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie next month. Â
