Sau Paulo aren’t in great form, having won just three of their last 10 league games. In the previous game at Botafogo, Kayque’s lone goal in the 61st minute separated the two teams. Prior to that, Rogerio Ceni’s side defeated America MG through Patrick’s goal. Tricolor Paulista’s failure to win on the road in their domestic campaign has kept them from contending for the title, currently sitting seven points adrift of the leaders. Ceni’s team likes to play possession based football and prefers to play out from the back. Sau Paulo has been impressive at home, winning four of their five fixtures in Morumbi. Scoring first in all but one of their home matches, with three opening goals coming before the 20-minute mark.
Palmeiras, on the other hand, are top of the table, unbeaten in their mast 18 games across all competitions. In the last match against Atletico Goianiense, Abel Ferreria’s side fell behind through Luan Garcia’s own goal in the 28th minute, but then, the home side netted four times before the break to take a comfortable three goal cushion. Gustavo Gomez scored a brace while Ze Rafael and Gustavo Scarpa netted one goal each for the Palmeiras. Although the visitors pulled one back through Ciego Churinin the 79th minute, it proved to be just a consolation goal. Ferreira’s side have only allowed multiple goals in a single match since that opening match blemish.
Sao Paulo midfielders Sara and Nikao are nursing ankle injuries and are doubtful for the upcoming fixture. Jandrei has managed to keep two clean sheets at home for the Tricolor Paulista this year. Jonathan Calleri, who has nine scalps to his name this season, will lead the attack alongside Luciano. As for Palmeiras, Marcos Rocha and Raphael Veiga are out with thigh injuries, Jailson will not return this season after rupturing his ACL and Jorde is not expected back until next month because of problem in his knee.Â
Sao Paulo possible line-up: Jandrei; Leo, Costa, Arboleda; Reinaldo, Gomes, Nestor, Nikao, Patrick; Calleri, Luciano.
Palmeiras possible line-up: Weverton; Gomez, Luan, Maurilo, Piquerez; Ze Rafael, Danilo; Lopes, Scarpa, Wesley; Rony
