Roma will host Ludogorets Razgrad in a UEFA Europa League fixture at Stadio Olimpico on Thursday. The Serie A outfit needs to secure the win to advance to the knockout stages of the competition, while Ludogorets must simply avoid the defeat to secure a spot in the next round. Roma are occupying third spot in Group C, having collected seven points from five games, level on points with second-placed Ludogorets, but separated by goal-difference. Jose Mourinho’s side are heading into the match on the back of a 3-1 win over Verona in an Italian top flight match on Monday, while Ludogorets got the better of Septemvri with a similar scoreline in Bulgarian First League game, a day earlier.

Last Thursday, against HJK Helsinki, Mourinho’s side secured a 2-1 win to keep their destiny in their own hands. Tammy Abraham’s header and Arttu Hoskonen’s own goal helped the Serie A side secure all three points at Sonera Stadium. After that, the Yellow and Reds returned to domestic action on Monday night. Roma came from behind to beat Verona courtesy of goals from Nicolo Zaniolo, Christian Volpato and Stephan el Shaarawy. The result helped the Little Cubs to move to 25 points from 12 games, at the fourth spot in the Serie A standings.

Ludogorets, on the other hand, are occupying second position in the First League standings, having pocketed 35 points from 14 games thus far. Last time out, the Eagles defeated Septemvri courtesy of goals from Matias Tissera, Olivier Verdon and Manuel Cafumana. Prior to that, Ante Simundza’s side suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to group leaders Real Betis in a Europa League match. Ludogorets are currently winless in 11 away matches in the Europa League, they have also failed to keep a single clean sheet during that period.
