Riyad Mahrez scored a goal in each half against Paris Saint Germain to take Manchester City to its first Champions League final. The English team go through with an aggregate score of 4-1. Pep Guardiola will be in his first Champions League final since his 2011 triumph with Spanish Giants Barcelona. PSG lost its cool and finished the match with 10-man as Di Maria was sent off for kicking Fernandinho. PSG’s star striker Kylian Mbappe was on the bench and didn’t come in.

Mahrez opened the scoring for City in the 11th minute. City goalkeeper Ederson’s long ball picked up Zinchenko’s run on the left flank. The left-back delivered a cut back for Kevin De Bruyne just outside the penalty area. The Belgians shot deflected off a PSG defender into the path of Mahrez inside the penalty box. The Algerian winger put the ball through the legs of PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas to make it 1-0 for the home side.

Mahrez got his second of the night in the 63rd minute. Phil Foden made a darting run down the left flank, played a little give and go with De Bruyne and delivered a grounded ball to Mahrez at the far past. Mahrez slotted the ball past Navas to make it 2-0 for City on the night and 4-1 on aggregate. It was their seventh straight victory in the competition.

Phil Foden had an excellent game for City. The youngster provided an assist and hit the post once. His left footed low shot from the edge of the box hit the outside of the post and went out. Pep Guardiola’s side dominated PSG in every aspect of the game. They were clinical up front and solid at the back. PSG failed to register even a single shot on target. The closest they got was a Marquinhos header, that hit the crossbar and went out in the 16th minute.

PSG LOST IT’S COOL

PSG players lost their calm on a number of occasions and Di Maria was sent off in the 69th minute for kicking Fernandinho on the foot in an off the ball incident. Tempers flared and both sets of players got involved in a heated exchange following the red card incident. The French team are not used to being on the receiving end of such dominating football. PSG attackers were denied any space to work with and the City defense stood firm to deny Neymar and company any chance.

Man City will play the winners of Chelsea versus Real Madrid match on Wednesday night in the final at Istanbul on May 29th.
