Marseille will be desperate to get back to winning ways when they travel to Roazhon Park to take on Rennes in a Ligue 1 fixture on Sunday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Nantes in the league last Sunday, while Marseille suffered a huge upset against Annecy in the mid-week, losing on penalties in the Coupe de France last-eight clash. The visitors are currently occupying second spot in the French top flight standings, having collected 52 points from 25 games, 11 adrift of the leaders Paris Saint-Germain. Rennes, meanwhile, are sitting three places behind the Olympians, separated by six points.

Rennes’ European campaign this season came to an end last Thursday after a penalty shoot-out loss to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League playoff. Therefore, the Red and Blacks are left with only Ligue 1 to focus on. Last time out, Bruno Genesio’s side edged past Nantes in the top flight, thanks to Jeremy Doku’s lone goal inside the opening 20 minutes. It was the Rennais’ 14th league-win of the season. Rennes have made the Roazhon Park a fortress so far this season, taking 33 points from 13 home games in Ligue 1.
Marseille, on the other hand, have won each of their last six league-game away from home. Their last victory came against Toulouse (3-2) at Stadium Municipal on February 19, courtesy of second-half efforts from Chancel Mangulu, Cengiz Under and Nuno Tavares. It was their 16th Ligue-win of the season. But after that, Igor Tudor’s side suffered back-to-back defeats against PSG and Annecy. The Olympians were thrashed 3-0 by PSG in the top flight last weekend, before Annecy got the better of them in the French Cup on Wednesday. Jordan Veretout’s first half opener and Francois Mughe’s 96th-minute equaliser forced the game into a tiebreaker, where the Ligue 2 outfit prevailed 7-6.
Rennes’ injury list consists of Hamari Traore, Flavien Tait and Martin Terrier. Kalimuendo-Muinga will continue to lead the line, with Doku and Salah in support. As for Marseille, Moroccan midfielder Amine Harit is sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury. Oliveira, Ounahi and Alexis Sanchez might continue to form the front-three with Guengouzi pulling the strings in the midfield.
