Real Valladolid had an impressive pre-season, recording four wins and two draws from their six friendlies. In their recent outing against Lazio, the match ended 0-0 in regular time before the Spanish outfit prevailed 4-1 winners on penalties. Pacheta’s side are aiming to consolidate their place at this level and have made some smart summer signings to bolster their squad. Gonzalo Plata, Monchu, Ivan Sanchez, Sergio Asenjo and Sergio Escudero have joined the Pucela on permanent and free transfers.
Villareal, on the other hand, have been relatively quiet this summer in terms of incomings, with only Kiko Femenia, Jose Luis Morales and Pep Reina arriving to boost the squad. Meanwhile a number of players, including Moi Gomez, Asenjo, Mario Gaspar and Vicente Iborra have departed the club. The Yellow Submarine participated in eight friendlies this summer, recording six wins and two draws. In their final friendly against Serie A giants Inter Milan, Alfonso Pedraza netted a brace, while Francis Coquelin and Nicolas Jackson scored one goal each to secure the win.
Real Valladolid forward Shon Weissman is sidelined with a hamstring injury, while the rest of the squad is fit and ready to go. Head coach Pacheta is likely to opt for a 4-3-3 formation with Sergio Leon leading the attack alongside Plata and Toni Villa. As for Villarreal, Gerrard Moreno is expected to be the target-man up front with Pau Torres and Chukwueze operating around him. Parejo is expected to pull the strings in the midfield alongwith Coquelin and Capoue.
Real Valladolid probable starting lineup: Asenjo; Perez, Sanchez, El Yamiq, Escudero; Monchu, Perez, suarez; Plata, Leon, Villa
Villarreal probable starting lineup: Rulli; Foyth, Albiol, Torres, Pedraza; Parejo, Coquelin, Capoue; chukwueze, G Moreno, Pino
