Real Sociedad will be aiming to strengthen their grip on the top four spot in the La Liga Santander when they host Girona at Reale Arena on Saturday afternoon. The hosts are currently occupying fourth spot in the table, having collected 61 points from 33 games, seven clear of fifth-placed Villarreal. The visitors, meanwhile, are sitting three places behind the White-Blue, separated by 14 points, and level on points with eighth placed Athletic Bilbao. Meanwhile, both sides are heading into the match on the back of victories last week with the Txuri-urdin securing an impressive 2-0 win over the reigning champions Real Madrid, while Girona got the better of Mallorca 2-1.

Real Sociedad secured their 18th league-win of the season against Los Blancos almost ten days ago courtesy of two unanswered goals from Takefusa Kubo and Ander Barrenetxea. The result extended White-Blue’s unbeaten run for four games, winning three matches in the process. Erreala have never claimed a top four finish in La Liga since 2012-13, so it would be a big achievement for them to secure a Champions League spot for the 2-23-24 campaign. Meanwhile, Imanol Alguacil’s men have won their last four league-matches at Reale Arena and are unbeaten at home since the narrow 1-0 loss to Real Valladolid in February. Meanwhile, White-Blue still have to travel to league-leaders Barcelona and third-placed Atletico Madrid before the end of the season.

Girona, on the other hand, are going through an excellent run of form, having won four of their last five in the league. The impressive run of form has helped Gironistes to climb into the the top seven. White and Reds will enter the contest off the back of three consecutive wins over Real Madrid, Sevilla and Mallorca. Last time out, Michel’s side secured their 13th top flight victory of the season against Mallorca courtesy of Bernardo Espinosa’s opener on the stroke of half-time and Valentin Castellanos’s 84th-minute winner. As of now, Girona are holding on to the seventh and the final European spot, while they are only five point shy of sixth-placed Real Betis, who are currently in pole position to advance to the group stage of the Europa League. Meanwhile, Blanquivermells have won only three league-games on the road this season and one of those triumphs came against Sevilla at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan at the start of this month.
