Last weekend, at Allianz Field, Minnesota went three goals ahead courtesy of a first-half brace from Emmanuel Reynoso and Luis Amarilla’s 61st minute strike. Although the Claret and cobalt fought back to score two goals through Jefferson Savarino and Anderson Julio, the hosts held on to the slender lead and secured all three points. It was Real Salt Lake’s fifth defeat of the season. Meanwhile only three sides in the Eastern conference have collected more points than Real Salt Lake in the last 15 games.
Colorado, on the other hand, suffered their eighth defeat of the season last Monday against Austin. Colorado took a two goal lead inside the opening half-hour courtesy of strikes by Lalas Abubakar and Jonathan Lewis. But the Oaks fought back to score three goals through Ethan Finlay, Sebastian Driussi and Maximiliano Urruti and hand second consecutive defeat to Colorado. The 2010 MLS champions will need to quickly get their acts together to have any chance of going all the way through.
Real Salt Lake would be without Damir Kreilach for the weekend clash, while Zack Farnsworth and Bret Halsey are nursing a pair of ankle issues. Cordova and Rubin are expected to partner in the forward line with Meram and Savarino occupying the flanks. As for Colorado, Jack Price is sidelined with a calf problem, while Oliver Larraz, Braian Galvan and Aboubacar Keita are also nursing injuries. Zardes and Barrios could lead the attack with Acosta, Rubio and Kaye forming the midfield-trio.
