Real Madrid beat Granada 4-1 at Los Carmenes on Thursday to keep pressure on leaders Atletico Madrid. Luka Modric and Rodrygo gave Real a 2-0 lead in the first half. Jorge Molina pulled one back for the home side but Alvaro Odriozola and Karim Benzema scored two quick goals to ensure three points for Real. In the other match of the day, Atletico Madrid beat Real Sociedad 2-1 at home to move one step closer to the title with just two games remaining.

Earlier, Miguel Gutierrez’s overhead through ball from the left side found Modric’s run inside the penalty box. The Croatian midfielder fired the ball in between the goalkeeper’s legs at the near post to give the lead to the away side. Rodrygo extended the lead just before the interval. The 20-year old got the ball on the half-way mark and drove in to the penalty box before driving in a low shot past the Granada goalkeeper Rui Silva.

After the restart, Granada  looked a bit more threatening and pulled one back in the 71st minute through Jorge Molina. Luis Suarez’s powerful shot from inside the penalty box was saved by Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. But the rebound went straight into Molina’s path, who tapped in from close range.

Odriozola made it 3-1 for the Los Blancos in the 75th minute. Eden Hazard’s cut back from the left side of the penalty area was fired in by the Spanish full-back. Just a minute after the goal, Benzema scored his 29th goal of the campaign to make the score 4-1 in favour of Real Madrid. Rui Silva spilled the ball into Benzema’s path outside the penalty area and the Frenchman scored into an empty net from well outside the penalty area.

Atletico move closer to title

Atletico Madrid scored two first half goals through Yannick Carrasco and Angel Correa to seal the three points even though Real Sociedad pulled one back through Igor Zubeldina in the 83rd minute.

The win helped Atletico get 80 points from 36 games, two points ahead of Zinedine Zidane’s side and four points ahead of third-placed Barcelona with just two games remaining.
