Reading began their pre-season with a 2-0 win over Colchester, lost 2-0 to Benfica, played out a 1-1 draw against West Ham and then got the better of AFC Wimbledon in their last outing. Yakou Maite opened the scoring 10 minutes before half-time before summer-signing Jeff Hendrick , who has joined the club on loan from Newcastle United, netted a second for the Royals towards the end of the second half. After the game against Brighton, Paul Ince’s side will begin their new Championship season with a trip to Blackpool on July 30.
Brighton, on the other hand, will play two more friendlies against Brentford and Espanyol before taking on Manchester United in their 2022-23 Premier League opener on August 7. The Seagulls began the summer with a goalless draw against Union SG before thrashing Estoril last Weekend. Neal Maupay netted a brace to put Graham Potter’s side ahead, while Kaoru Mitoma and new arrival Deniz Undav also got on the score-sheet to secure a comfortable win in Portugal. Â

Trossard and Maupay are expected to lead the attack with Gross might be deployed behind them in a free role. Caicedo, Alzte and Cucurella could form the three-man midfield.Â
