RB Salzburg will host Chelsea in a UEFA champions League fixture at Red Bull Arena Salzburg on Tuesday. The Blues are sitting at the summit of Group F with 7 points to their name from 4 games and are only three points away from securing a spot in the knockout stages of the continental competition. The hosts, meanwhile, are sitting one place behind Chelsea, with six points to their name. Salzburg are heading into the match on the back of a goalless draw against SK Sturm Graz in an Austrian Bundesliga fixture on Saturday, while Graham Potter’s side played out a 1-1 draw against Manchester United in a Premier League match on the same day.

Salzburg have displayed great fighting spirit in the 2022-23 Champions League season thus far, having not tasted defeat in four group stage matches. The Red Bulls have recorded one win and three draws. The Austrian outfit started off with back-to-back 1-1 draws against AC Milan and Chelsea, before getting the better of Dinamo Zagreb (1-0) on October 5. And then, in the reverse fixture against the Croatian outfit, last week, Matthias Jaissle’s side shared the spoils after Nicolas Seiwald’s opener was canceled out by Robert Ljubicic.

Chelsea, on the other hand, began their European campaign with a surprise 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb, before sharing the spoils against Salzburg (1-1) at Stamford Bridge in September. However, under the new boss Potter, the Blues have managed to turn their fortunes, having beaten Serie A champions AC Milan in both the home and away fixtures, with an aggregate scoreline of 5-0. In their latest outing against Milan last week, Jorginho and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyand netted in the first half to take all three points. Meanwhile, Potter’s men shared the points against Manchester United on Saturday after Jorginho’s 87th-minute opener from the penalty spot was canceled out by Casemiro, four minutes into the injury time.
