It was Leipzig’s first loss in 15 games in all competitions. Head coach Domenico Redesco, who took charge of the team in December has done a phenomenal job, registering 16 wins and just three defeats in 24 games, and are very much on course to secure two titles, the other potential coming in the DFB Pokal final against SC Freiburg on May 21.

Securing a place in next year’s Champions League is realistically the priority, however, they hold just a two point advantage over fifth-placed Freiburg. Leipzig has done well to get the better of Real Sociedad and Atalanta in the previous rounds and get this far in the competition. In the second leg of the quarter-final at Atalanta, Christopher Nkunku’s brace helped the side secure a 3-1 aggregate win and advance to the last four.

On the other hand, Rangers are looking likely to concede their league title to Celtic, with the Hoops having a six point lead over Giovanni Van Bronchorst’s side. However, the Broadway Blueshirts are very much on course to secure two silverwares, the other one being the Scottish Cup, where they will face Hearts in the title-decider next month.

The Glasgow giants made it this far in the competition courtesy of some impressive victories against the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Braga. In the quarter-finals, Rangers defeated Braga 3-2 on aggregate. The second leg at Ibrox stadium ended 3-1 in favour of the Scottish side courtesy of a double from James Tavernier and Kemar Roofe’s extra-time goal.

Probable Lineups

Rangers’ quarter-final second leg hero Roofe will be definitely on the sidelines along with Alfredo Morelos and Aaron Ramsey is also expected to miss out. Meanwhile  Fashion Sakala is expected to get the nod down the middle of the Rangers attack.

As for Leipzig, they have numerous suspension issues for the fixture with Willi Orban, Mohamed Simakan and Kevin Kampl all missing out on Thursday. Nordi Mukiele and Lukas Klostermann have recovered from COVID-19 and are likely to be full fit for the clash.

RB Leipzig possible starting lineup: Gulacsi, Mukiele, Klostermann, Gvardiol, Henrichs, Laimer, Adams, Angelinho, Olmo, Nkunku, Silva

Rangers possible starting lineup: McGregor, Tavernier, Goldson, Balogun, Bassey, Kamara, Lundstram, Jack, Aribo, Sakala, Kent
