RB Leipzig will host FC Koln in a Bundesliga fixture at Red Bull Arena Leipzig on Saturday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw against VFB Stuttgart last Sunday, while Koln secured a 3-1 win over Schalke on the same day. Leipzig had a brilliant season last term, winning the DFB-Pokal title and finishing fourth in the Bundesliga standings. The Red Bulls began their new season with a 5-3 defeat to Bayern Munich in the DFL-Supercup final. Koln, on the other hand, also had an impressive season last time around, finishing seventh in the table to secure a Europa conference League qualification.
?️ Domenico Tedesco:
“Köln will put in a lot of crosses, even though they don’t have Anthony Modeste any more. We have to know how to deal with and avoid them.”

Last Sunday, at Mercedes-Benz Arena, Leipzig were clearly the better side and deserved to take all three points against Stuttgart. Domenico Tedesco’s side recorded 68% of ball possession and created 28 goal-scoring opportunities. The Red Bulls’ attacking fluidity was simply brilliant. Last season’s 35-goal hero, Christopher Nkunku put Leipzig ahead inside the opening eight minutes with a stunning strike. But the hosts leveled the score just after the half-hour mark through Naouirou Ahamada. From then on, Leipzig couldn’t break the home side’s stubborn defence despite testing goalkeeper Florian Muller on nine occasions.
FC Koln, on the other hand made a perfect start to their new league campaign, taking all three points against Schalke. Steffan Baugmart’s side scored three times through Luca Kilian, Florian Kainz and Dejan Ljubicic. Meanwhile Schalke pulled one back through Marius Butler. Saturday’s trip to Leipzig will be a much harder test for the Billy Goats.
Leipzig defender Lukas Klostermann has sustained a serious ankle injury and is likely to be sidelined for a few weeks. Therefore Mohamed Simakan is expected to join Orban and Gvardiol in the three-man defence. Yussuf Poulsen and Konrad Laimer remain doubtful with ankle and thigh problems. Silva, Timo Werner and Nkunku could form the attacking trio with Kampl and Olmo pulling the strings in the midfield. As for Koln, midfielder Dimitrios Limnios is nursing a knee problem, while Mark Uth remains doubtful with a thigh strain. Baumgart is likely to opt for the same starting eleven that got the job done last week.
RB Leipzig probable starting lineup: Gulasci; Simakan, Orban, Gvardiol; Henrichs, Kampl, Olmo, Raum; Nkunku; Werner, silva
FC Koln probable starting lineup: Schwabe; Schmitz, Kilian, Chabot, Hector; Schindler, Ljubicic, Skhiri, Kainz; Dietz, Thielmann
The Bundesliga match between RB Leipzig and FC Koln will take place at Red Bull Arena on Saturday at 7:00 pm IST.
