RB Leipzig will be aiming to defend their DFB-Pokal title when they take on Eintracht Frankfurt at Olympiastadion in Berlin on Saturday. The Red Bulls are heading into the match after condemning Schalke to relegation on the final day of the Bundesliga season whilst cementing their own third-pace finish, While Frankfurt secured a Europa Conference League spot courtesy of getting the better of SC Freiburg 2-1 last weekend. Meanwhile, the Eagles are aiming to secure a sixth German Cup title and move level with Werder Bremen, which would leave them behind only Bayern Munich as the competitions joint-second most successful team in history.

Leipzig, who were formed in 2009, won their first major trophy in 2022 when they defeated Freiburg on penalties in the DFB-Pokal final, with Christopher Nkunku leveling the score despite Marcel Sabitzer being sent off after his side had already fallen behind. The Eagles came from behind to beat fifth-placed Freiburg last Saturday, thanks to Randal Kolo Muani’s 83rd-minute equaliser and Eric Junior Dina Edimbe’s winner one minute into the injury time. The result helped Die Adler to secure a seventh-place finish in the German top flight standings, with 50 points to their name. Meanwhile, when it comes to the DFB-Pokal, Olivier Glasner’s men defeated VFB Stuttgart 3-2 in the last four stage on May 4 courtesy of goals from Evan Ndicka, Daichi Kamada and Muani. With goals to his name, Muani is now leading the top scorer’s list, while Leipzig forward Timo Werner is in the second position, having netted five times.
