RB Leipzig will host Bayern Munich in the DFL-Supercup final at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of defeats in their previous outings. The hosts suffered a disappointing 5-0 loss to Liverpool in a friendly on July 21, while Bayern were defeated 1-0 by Manchester City last Saturday. Leipzig are featuring in this competition for the first time ever following their DFB-Pokal triumph last season, while the visitors, who had won the Bundesliga title last term are aiming to secure their sixth title in the last seven years.

Bayern suffered a narrow defeat to Pep Guardiola’s Man City courtesy of Erling Haaland’s lone strike inside the opening 12 minutes in Wisconsin. This came off the back of a thumping 6-2 win over DC United last Thursday. Sadio Mane, Marcel Sabitzer, Serge Gnabry, Matthijs De Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee and Thomas Muller netted against the Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit at Audi Field. Julian Nagelsmann’s side would be the favourites to lift the first silverware up for grabs in the new season.
But, Leipzig are no easy opponents by any means, having won ten of their 15 games this year across all competitions. Meanwhile, the defeat to the Premier League outfit last Thursday was just their third one of the year. Prior to that, Die Roten Bullen had gotten the better of Southampton 3-1 in their first pre-season friendly of the summer, courtesy of goals from Angelino, Emil forsberg and Ilaix Moriba. Last season, Die Roten Bullen finished fourth in the Bundesliga standings to earn Champions League qualification. Domenico Tedesco’s side would be hoping to spring an upset and claim a second trophy in the space of four months.
