Midfielder Rafael Crivellaro has extended his stay at Chennaiyin FC by signing a new contract , which extends his stay at the club till 2023. The 33-year-old was ruled out of the 2021-22 season because of injury and the player mutually decided to part ways for the remainder of the season. He captained the team in the 2020-21 season and last played for the club on 29th December, 2020 against ATK Mohun Bagan. Chennaiyin FC didn’t have a great 2021-22 Indian super League (ISL) season, finishing eighth in the league standings. CFC are trying to retain the core of the team for the upcoming campaign, with Anirudh Thapa also extending his stay at the club till the summer of 2024.

Crivellaro joined the club on 3rd September, 2019 and played a key role in the CFC reaching the finals of ISL 2019-20. The Brazilian scored 7 goals and registered 8 assists in 20 appearances for the Marina Machans in the 2019-20 campaign. It was a fairytale season for CFC as they made it to the final after a disastrous first half of the season. The following season, Crivellaro played just 7 games , scoring and providing one assist each.

Crivellaro’s combination with Thapa would be key for CFC

The Brazilian is a creative midfielder who is very good with the ball at his feet. His vision, skill and ability to score wonder goals will be key for CFC in the upcoming season. Crivellaro is very good at getting out of tight situations and at the same time can make the players around him excel. His combination with Thapa in the middle of the park is something CFC missed last season. Thapa is a box-to-box midfielder who works his socks off and is equally good at both going forward and doing the defensive duties. Therefore Thapa’s presence will allow Crivellaro to control the midfield and play more freely up front.
