Qarabag won the 2021-22 Azerbaijan Premier League, which saw them book their spot in the first qualifying round of the 2022-23 Champions League. Guraban Gurbanov’s side defeated Zurich over two legs in the second round with an aggregate scoreline of 5-4. The opening leg had ended 3-2 in favour of the Azerbaijani outfit, while the second leg had ended 2-2 courtesy of goals from Kady and Owusu Kwabena. The Horseman played in the Europa conference League last season, progressing to the knockout round before losing 6-1 on aggregate to Marseille in the knockout stage.
Ferencvaros, on the other hand, played in the group stage of the 2020-21 Champions League, finishing bottom of the group consisting of Barcelona, Juventus and Dynamo Kiev. The Green Eagles are 33-time Hungarian top flight champions, finishing 11 points clear at the top of the division last term, which saw them book their spot in the first round of qualification for this season’s European Cup. Stanislav Cherchesov’s side kicked off their 2022 Hungarian league last Monday with a 1-0 win over Puskas Akademia courtesy of Kristoffer Zachariassen’s last-ditch goal.

Qarabag have no fresh injury concerns and therefore head coach Qurabanov is expected to opt for the same starting eleven that got the job done against Zurich in their last outing. Waqdji is expected to be the lone striker up front in the 4-2-3-1 system, while Kady could operate as a number 10. Jankovic and Almeyda are likely to pull the string from the midfield.
