Preston are heading into the match on the back of three wins from their last four outings across all competitions. Last time out, Ryan Lowe’s side got the better of Birmingham, courtesy of early strikes from Ryan Ledson and Alan Browne. Meanwhile, the Deepdale outfit defeated Huddersfield Town 3-1 in the previous round of the Cup competition on January 7. Florian Kamberi put the Terriers ahead just before the hour mark, but strikes from Tom Lees, Bambo Diaby and Alan Browne turned the game on its head.
Tottenham, on the other hand, edged past League One side Portsmouth in their FA Cup third round match, courtesy of Harry Kane’s 50th-minute strike. After that, Antoine Conte’s men suffered back-to-back league-defeats against Arsenal and Manchester City, before getting their acts together to secure a narrow win over Fulham, last Monday. Once again, captain Kane’s lone goal on the stroke of half-time separated the two sides at Craven Cottage. Meanwhile, the 29-year-old English striker is now level with Tottenham’s all-time top goalscorer Jimmy Greaves on 266 strikes. Kane will have the record on his sights at Deepdale, as Spurs look to reach the quarter-finals of world’s oldest football tournament.
Preston midfielders Ben Whitesman and Brad Potts are back in training and should be in contention to feature against Spurs on Saturday. Ched Evans is likely to spearhead the attack, with Everton loanee Thomas Cannon, while Emii Riis Jakobsen and Sean Maguire are sidelined with injuries. As for Tottenham, attacker Lucas Moura is occupying the medical room with a long term tendon problem, while recent arrival Arnaut Danuma could make his debut for his new club on Saturday. Head coach Conte might rotate his squad due to workload management.
