Manchester United travel to Villa park to take on Aston Villa in an intriguing Premier League fixture. The Red Devils are coming off an 8-5 aggregate victory against AS Roma in the Europa League semi-finals. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has almost secured the Champions League qualification for the next season as they are placed second in the Premier League points table with a nine point lead over fifth placed West Ham United with a game in hand. Aston Villa are finding their form back after some downfall. Dean Smith’s side beat Everton 2-1 in a thrilling game at Goodison Park last week.

Manchester United were beaten 3-2 by AS Roma in the mid-week Europa League fixture but entered the final with an aggregate score of 8-5. Edinson Cavani, who joined the Red Devils from PSG last October, scored four goals in the semifinals to take his team through. Solskjaer’s side have been on an impressive run of form with just one loss in their previous 27 league fixtures. Bruno Fernandes has been the most consistent performer for United this season. The Portuguese attacking midfielder has scored 16 goals and provided 11 assists so far.

Aston Villa on the other hand, had an impressive start to the Premier League season, even looked poised to compete for the European spot but faltered in between. Dean Smith’s side are slowly coming back to form with a thrilling win against Everton last week. Ollie Watkins who recently made his England debut has been doing a phenomenal job for Aston Villa up front in the absence of their talisman Jack Grealish. The 25-year old striker has got loads of energy as he puts pressure on the opposition defence throughout the 90 minutes with his closing down. He has netted 13 times in the league so far and provided four assists

Aston Villa will be looking to win consecutive games for the first time since December 2020. They have won two of their last five league games. Whereas, Man United will be looking to close the gap on leaders Manchester City and delay their title triumph, as a victory for United means City will have to wait for some more time to lift the Premier League trophy. United are on an impressive run of four victories in their previous five league games.

Aston Villa are placed 9th in the points table with 48 points from 33 games and will be looking to finish at the top half of points table with some positive results in the remaining fixtures. Manchester United have 67 points from 33 games so far.
