Saudi Arabia will be looking to continue their impressive start to the 2022 FIFA World cup when they take on Poland in their second Group C fixture at the Education city stadium on Saturday. The Asian outfit are heading into the match on the back of a historic 2-1 victory over favourites Argentina on Tuesday, while Poland played out an entertaining goalless draw against Mexico on the same day. The hard-fought victory against the two time champions has put the Falcons in a very good position to qualify for the knockout stages, for the first time in their history.

Poland had a golden opportunity to take all three points against Mexico, when their talismanic striker Robert Lewandowski was brought down inside the box by Hector Moreno and the referee pointed to the spot. The Barcelona-man, who is Poland’s top goalscorer with 76 scalps to his name, stepped up to take the penalty but was denied by Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa. Czeslaw Michniewicz’s side will definitely feel that this was a missed opportunity against  a side that they would have been expecting to compete with for that second qualification spot, particularly after favourites Argentina dropped points. Saudi Arabia are a high-pressing team and if the Polish attackers could time his runs to perfection, there are high chances of finding the back of the net.

Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, would be high on confidence after securing their greatest ever victory. The Falcons came from behind to record a historical win against La Albiceleste. Lionel Messi converted a spot-kick to put Argentina ahead inside the opening ten minutes. But, after the break, Herve Renard’s side came out all guns blazing to score two times through Saleh Alshehri and Salem Aldawsari. After taking the lead, the Saudi’s defended like there was no tomorrow, they were winning most of the fifty-fifty battles and were not hesitant to put their body on the line. The likes of Lautaro Martinez, Angel di Maria, Messi, among others were kept quiet for most parts of the game.

Probable Lineups

Polish full back Bartosz Bereszynski and defensive midfielder Krystian Bielik suffered knocks against Mexico and won’t be available for Friday’s fixture. Since Poland’s last group-match will be against Argentina, Czesław Michniewicz is likely to field a more attacking lineup in order to take three points. Therefore, Arkadiusz Milik could come into the playing eleven, joining Lewandowski up front. As for Saudi Arabia, full-back Yasser al-Shahrani suffered a jaw injury after a horror collision with his own goalkeeper and has been flown back home for recovery. As a result, Mohammed Al-Burayk is expected to start at the left-back position.

Poland probable starting lineup: Szczesny, Zalewski, Kiwior, Gilk, Bednarek, Cash, Szymanski, Krychowiak, Zielinski, Lewandowski, Milik

Saudi Arabia probable starting lineup: Al-Owaisi, Al-Burayk, Al-Boleahi, Al-Tambakti, Abdulhamid, Al Malki, Kanno, Al-Abed, Al Dawsari, Al-Shehiri, Al Buraikan
