Argentina will be aiming to secure qualification to the knockouts of Qatar World Cup when they take on Poland in a Group C fixture at Stadium 974- Ras Abu Aboud on Wednesday night. All four teams in the group are still very much alive in the race to qualify for the last-16 stage. Poland are occupying top spot in the group, having drawn their opening fixture against Mexico before getting the better of Saudi Arabia on Saturday to collect four points. La Albiceleste, on the other hand, are sitting at the second spot, with three points to their name, level with third-placed Saudi Arabia, from two outings. The South American champions kicked off their campaign with a surprise 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia, before defeating Mexico 2-0 on Saturday. The winner of the tie will seal qualification to the round of 16.

Poland earned a hard-fought victory against Saudi Arabia courtesy of Piotr Zielinski’s opener and Robert Lewandowski’s late strike. Meanwhile goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was the stand out performer for the Eagles at the Education City Stadium as the juventus-man denied Salem Al-Dawsari from the penalty spot and produced some fine saves to keep a clean sheet. Poland are bidding to reach the last 16 of the World Cup for the first time since 1986. Even a draw would be enough for Czeslaw Michniewicz’s side to go through to the next round. Therefore, the White-Reds are likely to come up with a defensive game plan, with Lewandowski spearheading the attack.

Argentina, on the other hand, needs to secure three points to guarantee a place in the knockouts, while a draw will mean that La Albiceleste will need to rely on the result of the other match in the group, between Mexico and Saudi Arabia. Four days after suffering a shock 2-1 defeat to the Green Falcons, Lionel Scaloni’s side defeated Mexico 2-0 to boost their hopes of reaching the knockouts. Lionel Messi broke the deadlock with a stunning long-range effort in the 64th-minute. And then, three minutes from time, substitute Enzo Fernandez doubled the lead with an even better effort from inside the box. Argentina have progressed to the knockouts in 12 of the last 13 World Cup finals.

Probable Lineups

Poland have not reported any injuries, therefore Michniewicz could name an unchanged playing eleven against La Albiceleste, with Arkadiusz Milik partnering Lewandowski up front. Goalkeeper Szczesny is set to be protected by the back-four consisting of Matty Cash, Kamil Glik, Jakub, Kiwior and Bartosz Bereszynski. As for Argentina, Scaloni is still searching for his best playing eleven. The Argentine tactician could tinker with his formation and lineup. Messi, Lautaro Martinez and Angel Di Maria would form the front-three. Lisandro Martinez, who came in for Romero, did a solid job against Mexico, and the Manchester United player is likely to continue at the heart of the defence, alongside Nicolas Otamendi.

Poland probable starting lineups: Szczesny, Cash, Glik, Kiwior, Bereszynski, Zielinski, Bielik, Krychowiak, Frankowski, Milik, Lewandowski

Argentina probable starting lineup: E. Martinez, Molina, Otamendi, L. Martinez, Marcus Acuna, Enzo, Fernandez, De Paul, Mac Allister, Messia, L. Martinez, Di Maria
