Widely regarded as one of the best African players right now, Sadio Mane is a Senegalese footballer who plays as a winger for Liverpool in the Premier League and for the Senegalese national team. He recently proved this by leading and winning the AFCON with the Senegal team.

Mane was born in Sédhiou, Senegal, on April 10, 1992. At the age of 19, he began his professional career with Ligue 2 team Metz. On 14 January 2012, he made his professional debut, coming on as a replacement in the 75th minute of a 0–1 home loss to Bastia. After a solitary season with Metz, Mane transferred to Austrian Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg on August 31, 2012, for the third largest transfer price FC Metz have ever received for a fee of €4 million. In the 2013–14 season, he was a member of the Salzburg club that won the league and cup domestic double. Mane moved to Southampton in England for a club record cost of £11.8 million later that summer.

In a 2–1 League Cup victory over Arsenal, he made his debut, winning the penalty that resulted in Southampton's opening goal. On September 27, he made his debut league appearance for the club, starting and assisting for the game's first goal in another 2–1 victory over Queens Park Rangers. He scored his first goal in a 1–0 win over Stoke City. On June 28, 2016, Mane agreed to a five-year contract with Liverpool for £34 million. He was the most expensive African footballer in history at the time due to the transfer cost. He made his Premier League debut for Liverpool on August 14, scoring the fourth goal in a 4–3 away win over Arsenal.

Mane was a member of the Senegalese Olympic team in 2012. He is now tied for third in all-time appearances and is a joint-record goalscorer for his country. He competed for Senegal at the 2012 Olympics, as well as the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2021. Mane led Senegal to a runner-up finish in the 2019 tournament and was voted African Footballer of the Year a year later. Mane scored the game-winning penalty kick in the 2021 final to give Senegal their first Africa Cup of Nations championship, and he was voted Player of the Tournament. Mane also competed for his country in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which was only their second appearance in the tournament.
