Paul Pogba has said he does not know how his relationship with Jose Mourinho was soured when he was the manager at Manchester United.

In 2018, Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho were involved in a heated confrontation at the touchline. Manchester United were facing Tottenham Hotspur. Pogba was substituted after an hour as Manchester United suffered a loss. For Pogba and Mourinho, this represented the ultimate low point. Life had turned 180 degrees. In 2016, Mourinho and Pogba had wanted to work together. But, in 2018, after the defeat against Tottenham, Pogba was subbed.
In the beginning of 2018/19, relations between Mourinho and Pogba took a big hit when the French player was stripped of the vice-captaincy. Reports later emerged through Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola that he wanted to leave the club. Instead, Mourinho was removed from Manchester United after a dismal season.
Three years later, Manchester United had their revenge when they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 in the Premier League encounter. Goals from Edinson Cavani, Fred and Mason Grenwood cancelled what was the early lead given by Son Heung-Min to the Spurs.
In a chat with Sky Sports, Pogba said he had no idea why the relationship between him and Mourinho went downhill.
“Once I had a great relationship with Mourinho, everybody saw that. And the next day you don’t know what happened. That’s the strange thing I had with Mourinho and I cannot explain to you because even I don’t know,” Pogba said.
The 28-year-old, who was part of the 2018 World Cup winning team for France, stated about how Manchester United gave it back to Mourinho. “We got the result we wanted, Ole knows it. We enjoyed that moment because we know Mourinho and we know what he likes. He lost the game and he doesn’t want to speak about the game. He wants to speak about the dad of someone, that’s what he does. Everybody knows him, it’s very Mourinho,” Pogba said.
Manchester United are in second position in the Premier League, having won four out of the last five games with one match ending in a draw. However, they still trail Manchester City by 11 points. But, City have lost two out of their last five games.
