Atletico GO had a very impressive group stage in the continental competition, registering four wins from six games to cruise through to the knockout stage.
Olimpia will host Atletico Goianiense in the first leg of their Copa Sudamericana last-16 fixture at Estadio Defensores del Chaco on Thursday. The hosts are heading into the tie on the back of a thumping 4-1 win over 12 de Octubre in their Paraguayan Primera Division fixture on Sunday. Meanwhile the visitors were held to a 1-1 draw in their last outing at Ceara in a Brazilian League match. Olimpia finished third in their group in the Copa Libertadores to end up in this particular game, while the visitors topped Group F of Copa Sudamericana to book a place in the round of 16.

On Sunday, Olimpia netted three goals inside the opening 36 minutes through Walter Gonzalez, Jorge Eduardo Regalde and Alejandro Silva Gonzalez. Although 12 de Octubre pulled one back through Ronald Prieto, the home side completed the drubbing with their fourth, courtesy of Nestor Camacho’s strike in injury time. Olimpia are in pretty good form, having not tasted defeat in their last five games across all competitions. During that period, the team managed to score 16 goals, while conceding just 4.
Atletico GO, on the other hand, have had mixed fortunes in their recent outings, registering two wins, two draws and a defeat in their last five games across all competitions. Against Ceara, on Sunday, Los Colchoneros took the lead through Jorginho in the 26th minute before Erik equalised for the hosts in the 48th minute. Meanwhile Jorginho’s side had a very impressive group stage in the continental competition, registering four wins from six games to cruise through to the knockout stage. They have the most impressive goal-difference of any team left in this competition from the group stage.

Olimpia are unlikely to make too many changes to the team that got the job done on Sunday and last game’s goal-scorer Camacho might be considered for a spot in the starting eleven. Paredes is expected to lead the attack with Candia and Villarreal in support. As for Atletico GO, Wanderson and Dudu are doubtful because of fitness issues. The back-four of Oliveira, Silva, Alcaraz and Salazar have been doing a solid job and should retain their positions.
Olimpia probable starting lineup: Oliveira; Silva, Alcaraz, Salazar, Gonzalez; Recalde, Torres, Camacho; Candia, Paredes, Villarreal
Atletico Goianiense probable starting lineup: Ronaldo; Henrique, Ramon, Edson, Hayner; Edson, Freitas; Fernando, Jorginho, Airton; Churin.
The Copa Sudamericana round of 16 match between Olimpia and Atletico Goianiense will take place at Estadio Defensores del Chaco and it will kickoff at 6:00 am IST on July 1, Friday.
