Atletico Madrid are heading into the match on the back of a four-game unbeaten run and would be hoping to begin their pre-season on a positive note against a lower division side. Star striker Luis Suarez has left the club and the Los Colchoneros are in search of a new centre-forward to fill the big shoes. Atletico will play two more friendlies against Manchester United and Juventus before kicking-off their new La Liga season away to Getafe on August 15. Numancia, on the other hand, will begin their 2022-23 Primera Division RFEF season at home against Intercity on August 28. Diego Martinez’ side are hoping to earn promotion to the second tier and would be looking to put up a good show against a much superior opponent, Atletico, in their first friendly of the summer.
