Nottingham Forest will host West Ham United in a Premier League fixture at City Ground on Sunday. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of identical 2-0 defeats in their opening matches of the new season last week. Forest had finished fourth in the 2021-22 Championship table last term before getting the better of Sheffield United and Huddersfield in the playoffs to earn promotion to the top tier of English football. West Ham, on the other hand, finished seventh in the Premier League standings last term.

Forest’ return to the Premier League wasn’t great at all, as they struggled to find any kind of rhythm against Newcastle last Saturday. Steve Cooper’s side were clearly dominated by the Magpies at St James’ Park, as they failed to register even a single shot on target and conceded twice in the second half through Fabian Schar and Callum Wilson. There was a gulf in class between the two sides.
West Ham’s situation was no different at the London stadium. The Hammers were forced to sit back and defend for a large part of the game and struggled to create any clear cut goal scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, Manchester City’s new signing Erling Haalnd scored one goal in each half to seal the win for the Cityzens. David Moyes’ side recorded just 24% of ball possession and one shot on target in the entire match.
Forest boss Cooper is likely to make some alterations to the side that started last week. Orel Mangala and Taiwo Awoniyi are both in contention to feature on Sunday. Former West Ham-man Jesse Lingard is set to retain his place in the attacking department. As for West Ham, Michail Antonio is expected to lead the line with Bowen, Lanzini and Fornals in support. Rice and Soucek could pull the strings in the midfield.
Nottingham Forest probable starting lineup: Henderson; Worrall, Niakhate, McKenna; Williams, O’ Brien, Mangala, Toffolo; Lingard, Awoniyi, Johnson
West Ham United probable starting lineup: Fabianski; Coufal, Johnson, Zouma, Cresswell; Rica, Soucek; Bowen, Lanzini, Fornals; Antonio
