Norwich City will host Birmingham City in an all-Championship clash in the opening round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday. It is fair to say that both sides have had a mixed start to the new season. Birmingham will still enter this match on the back of a victory in the last game, while Norwich are yet to get their first three points after being relegated from the Premier League last campaign. Norwich, who finished at the bottom of the EPL table last season, would ideally want to return to the top flight immediately. However, the start they made to the current season is anything but impressive.

In their Championship opener, Norwich lost 2-1 to Cardiff City and they followed it up by securing a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Wigan Athletic over the weekend. Tuesday could provide them with an opportunity to register their first victory of the season. However, they will face a difficult challenge in the form of Birmingham City. The Blues started the Championship season with a goalless draw at Luton Town before beating Huddersfield Town 2-1 at the weekend. These recent results will certainly make Birmingham the favourites on Tuesday.

Possible Lineups

Both teams will have to make a lot of changes to their line-ups due to the injury situations in their respective camps. Przemyslaw Placheta, who is on loan from Norwich, will not be able to play against his parent side. Besides, there are question marks over the participation of Harlee Dean, Gary Gardner and Nico Gordon. On the other hand, Norwich will most likely miss Dimitrios Giannoulis, while Max Aarons could join him on the sidelines. Besides, there are also doubts over the participation of Sam Byram, Jon Rowe and Isaac Hayden. However, they will welcome back Grant Hanley, who missed the last match due to suspension.
