Norway will play host to Sweden in a UEFA Nations League fixture at the Ullevaal Stadion on Sunday. The home team is heading into the clash on the back of a goalless draw against Slovenia, while Sweden lost 1-0 to Serbia in their last outing. After three rounds of games, the Lions are placed on top of League B Group 4 with seven points, while the visitors occupy third place with just three points. Meanwhile both these sides have faced each other 109 times and Norway has a clear advantage, having recorded 59 wins as opposed to Sweden’s 25 victories. In the reverse fixture last week, the Lions secured a 2-1 win at the Friends Arena.

The Lions, who had failed to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar after finishing third in their qualification group, are going through an impressive run of form this year. Stale Solbakken’s side has won four of their five games in 2022 so far, scoring 14 goals and conceding just two in this period. Norway started their 2022-23 Nations League campaign with a 1-0 win over Serbia before edging past Sweden and then played out a goalless draw against Slovenia in the last match. Three days ago, despite playing against a 10-man Slovenian side for almost 40 minutes, the Lions couldn’t take advantage and were eventually forced to share the spoils. However, Solbakken’s side, who have lost just one of their last 12 matches, would be high on confidence heading into Sunday’s game.
Sweden, on the other hand, started their Nations League campaign with a 2-0 win over Slovenia courtesy of goals from Emil Forsberg and Dejan Kulusevski. But then suffered two back-to-back defeats against Norway and Sweden respectively. Norway clinched a 2-1 win in the reverse fixture against Sweden courtesy of Erling Haaland’s brace. while Serbia clinched the three points through Luka Jovic’ lone goal on the stroke of half-time. Sweden’s form hasn’t been great this year, having won just two of their five games in 2022 while losing the remaining three. Janne Andersson’s side, who were relegated from League A of the Nations League in the last campaign, remains in contention for promotion, but need to close the four-point gap with the leaders Norway, in order to boost their qualification chances.

Norway boss Solbakken is likely to stick with the same game plan but there could be change in personnel in order to freshen up his side. Once again, Haaland is expected to lead the attack with Mohammed Elyounoussi in support, but Alexander Sorloth could replace Josua King in the attack. The back-four of Marcus Pedersen, Andreas Hanche-Olsen, Leo Ostigard and Birger Meling are expected to retain their spots. As for Sweden, midfielders Mattias Svanberg and Kristoffer Olsson would be unavailable due to suspension, while central defender Joakim Nilsson is doubtful because of an injury he sustained against Serbia.
