Former Manchester United centre-forward Robin van Persie has ran out of words to heap praise on in-form striker Marcus Rashford. The English international is enjoying a dream run in Erik ten Hag’s side, having already scored 27 club goals in all competitions this season. Rashford’s impeccable form is one of the main reasons behind United’s impressive run so far this campaign. Man United have already won the EFL Cup and are in the semifinal of the FA Cup and quarterfinal of the Europa League. Not to mention that the Red Devils are sitting third in the Premier League table as well.

Marcus Rashford has received a lot of plaudits for his performances this season and the latest one to shower praise on him is former Dutch striker Robin van Persie. “Yeah, you can see he’s having maybe the best form of his life,” van Persie told club media. “The way he plays, he looks very fit. He looks very focused. He looks to have fun. He’s on a mission now. Everyone knew from an early age, because he broke through from a very early age, everyone knew how good of a player he was – and still is of course – but now you see that everything clicks, and that is partly down to him, but as well a coach, and, as well, your team-mates.”

‘Marcus Rashford is going from strength to strength’

Robin van Persie did not just stop there but also gave equal credit to one of his teammates in Bruno Fernandes. He believes the connection both Fernandes and Rashford are sharing currently is a “unique” one. “If you look at the connection he has with Fernandes for example, that is something unique. You only have that connection with a few players throughout your career. And he has that now. He is like going from strength to strength,” he elaborated.

He added: “From a coach’s point of view, it looks really fun to work with a player like Rashford. But it goes both ways. I’m sure Rashford is really happy with Erik [ten Hag] as well. You can see he’s growing, he’s confident; with him, you know almost every game he plays, it doesn’t matter against who, that he will score a goal or be decisive in most matches. From a fan point of view, it is fun to watch as well, because this is the Rashford we would like to see every week, every three or four days, so he is bringing a lot of joy.”

Robin van Persie happy to see Tyrell Malacia shine

Later, Robin van Persie shifted his focus to his countryman Tyrell Malacia. The former striker is happy with the progress the young full-back is making and believes that his journey gives a lot of hope to youngsters in the Netherlands. “I do believe, per window, [you have] to get a couple of the right players in, and Tyrell Malacia is one of them. He wasn’t really well known before he came. I played with him at Feyenoord, so I knew how good he was, and still is, and he is proving that every game,” he explained.

“When it clicks and when it’s clear what to do, because clearly [there are] both full-backs – Diogo Dalot on the right side, you have Luke Shaw sometimes on the left, or Tyrell – you can see that they know exactly what to do in ball possession, as well when the opponent has the ball. He’s doing that so well and I’m so proud of him. He’s from my city. He’s from my club. He’s giving a lot of youngsters hope.”

Robin van Persie believes Malacia’s progress will act as a motivation for a lot of young players from the Netherlands. However, he wants Malacia to constantly keep improving in the future. “He is now playing on the highest level and competing against the best. He’s not only giving youngsters here hope, he’s giving youngsters in Holland hope, like okay, if you play well, there is a possibility that you can go really far, so that you end up playing for a team like Manchester United, and I’m just proud of him. I hope he keeps developing and improving and stays hungry to keep getting better every day,” he added.
