Rennes will play host to Shakhtar Donetsk in the second leg of their Europa League playoff tie at Roazhon Park on Thursday night. The reverse fixture at Polish Army stadium last week ended 2-1 in favour of Shakhtar, thanks to first-half goals from Dmytro Kryskiv and Artem Bondarenko. The French outfit pulled one back through Karl Toko Ekambi just before the hour-mark. It was a clinical performance from the Ukrainian outfit, as they managed to find the back of the net twice from four shots on target. Rennes, on the other hand, are currently occupying fifth spot in the Ligue 1 standings, having collected 43 points from 24 games, seven adrift of the top-three. Last time out, the Rennais got the better of Clermont Foot 2-0 in the French top flight on Sunday, courtesy of Arnaud Kalimuendo’s brace. It was their 13th league-win of the season. Bruno Genesio’s side has been largely inconsistent, having recorded three wins and as many defeats in their last six league-games. Meanwhile, the Red and Blacks have an excellent home-record in the top flight this season, with 11 wins from 13 games at Roazhon Park. Genesio’s side have also kept six clean sheets in those 13 league games in front of home fans.

Shakhtar, meanwhile, have fought against all the odds to keep one foot in the last-16 of Europe’s secondary competition. Prior to the halt of competitive action in Ukraine, the Miners played in 13 league-games, winning nine of those to be sitting at the second position in the Ukrainian Premier League standings. Despite losing one of their key players Mykhaylo Mudryk in January, Shakhtar have managed to remain a potent outfit in Europe. Igor Jovicevic’s side just needs to hold on to the slender one-goal lead to advance to the next round of the competition.

Probable Lineups

Rennes winger Martin Terrier is sidelined with an ACL injury, therefore Toko Ekambi will continue to occupy one of the flanks, and will hope to replicate his goal against Shakhtar in the first leg. Meanwhile midfield-duo of Xeka is nursing an ankle injury, therefore Lovro Majer will take his place, alongside Bourigeaud and Santamaria. As for Shakhtar, winger Maryan Shved is out with a groin injury, while Oleg Ocheretko is doubtful for Thursday’s game because of a knock he picked up in the home leg. Lassina Traore is expected to spearhead the attack.
