Real Betis will be hoping to extend their winning run to four games in the La Liga when they host reigning champions Real Madrid at Benito Villamarin on Sunday night. The hosts secured a thrilling 3-2 win away to Elche last Sunday, while Los Blancos are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat to Barcelona in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final tie in the mid-week. The reverse fixture in September had ended 2-1 in favour of Carlo Anceloti’s side, courtesy of goals from Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.

Betis are in stunning form, having won their last three games, against -Almeria, Real Valladolid and Elche, Last time out, Maniel Pellegrini’s side came from two goals down to secure a dramatic victory at Manuel Martinez Valero, thanks to second-half efforts from Borja Iglesias, Juan Miranda and Willian Jose. The Green and Whites are currently occupying fifth spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 40 points from 23 games, just four adrift of fourth-placed Real Sociedad, who have played an extra game. Meanwhile, Real Betis have also entered the last-16 stage of the Europa League, where they will face Manchester United in the two-legged tie later this month.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, will be itching to get back to winning ways, having drawn 1-1 to Atletico Madrid in the league last weekend, before losing the El Clasico on Thursday. Ancelotti’s side are currently sitting at the second position in the standings, with 52 points to their name from 23 games, seven adrift of leaders Barcelona, and therefore cannot afford any more slip ups if they are to challenge for the title. Last time out, Los Blancos lost to Xavi’s side courtesy of Eder Militao’s own goal inside the opening 26 minutes at Bernabeu. Real Madrid now have league matches against Betis and Espanyol, before welcoming Liverpool for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, boasting a 5-2 advantage from first leg.
