Reading will host Hull City in an EFL Championship fixture at Madejski Stadium on Saturday. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of defeats in the mid-week, with the hosts losing 2-1 away to Blackburn Rovers, while the Tigers were beaten 3-1 by league-leaders Burnley. As of now, the Royals are occupying 16th spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 44 points from 37 games, nine clear of the relegation zone. The visitors, meanwhile, are sitting one place above Reading, separated by just two points.

Reading lost to Blackburn on Wednesday despite the fact that Cesare Casadei’s 68th-minute effort canceled out Ben Brereton Diaz’s second-minute opener. Ryan Hedges’ strike eight minutes from time, handed the Royals their 19th league-defeat of the season. Meanwhile it was their fifth consecutive defeat. Reading’s last triumph came against Blackpool
(3-1) last month, thanks to Tom Ince’s brace and Andy Carroll penalty kick. It was their 13th second tier victory of the campaign. Although Paul Ince’s side possess the seventh-best home-record in the Championship this season, the last two games at Madejski have ended in 1-0 defeats. On a positive note, Reading fought back to get the better of Hull 2-1 in the reverse fixture in November, thanks to Yakou Meite’s equaliser and an injury-time own goal by Ryan Longman.

Hull City, on the other hand, have prevailed in just one of their last five outings. After a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion, courtesy of Benjamin Tetteh’s 33rd-minute effort and own goal by Dara O’Shea in the second-half, on March 4, the Tigers played out a 1-1 draw away to Coventry City, last Saturday, and then lost out to the Clarets on Wednesday. Nathan Tella scored a hat-trick for Burnley at MKM Stadium, while Hull netted a consolation goal through Ozan Tufan, three minutes into the injury time. It was the Tigers’ 15th Championship-defeat of the season.
