Newcastle United will host Manchester United in a Premier League fixture at St. James’ Park on Sunday. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of victories in their last outings before the international break, with the hosts securing a 2-1 league-win away to Nottingham Forest, while United got the better of Fulham 3-1 in the FA Cup quarter-final clash. As of now, the Magpies are occupying fifth spot in the English top tier standings, having collected 47 points from 27 games, just two points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who have played two games extra, and three shy of the Red Devils at the third position.

Newcastle came from behind to earn a thrilling victory at City Ground last time out. Forest took the lead through Emmanuel Dennis’s 26th-minute effort, before the Alexander Isak leveled the score on the stroke of half-time. Just when it looked like the points might be shared in Nottinghamshire, Isak converted a spot-kick three minutes into the injury time and helped the Magpies secure their 12th top flight victory of the season. Meanwhile, Eddie Howe’s side have have been pretty solid at home this term, losing only one of their 13 league games at St James’ Park, while collecting 26 points from a possible 39 available in front of their own supporters.

Manchester United, on the other hand, have not lost to the Magpies in the last seven encounters, while winning five of those clashes, including a 2-0 victory in the EFL Cup final in February. After the 7-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield at the start of March, the Red Devils have gone on a four-game unbeaten streak in all competitions, that includes a 5-1 aggregate-win over Real Betis in the Europa League last-16. Last time out, Erik ten Hag’s side came from behind to defeat Fulham in the last eight stage of the FA cup, thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ double and one goal from Marcel Sabitzer’. United will play Brighton & Hove Albion in the semi-finals of the FA Cup later this month.
