Czech Republic will be looking to continue their impressive start to the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying campaign when they travel to Zimbru Stadium on Monday to face Moldova. The visitors secured a comfortable 3-1 win over Poland in their opening Group E fixture on Friday, while Moldova were held to a 1-1 draw by Faroe Islands. The victory helped the Locomotive to take an early lead in the standings, while Moldova are sitting at the third position. Meanwhile, these two nations have faced each other only two times before, in the Euro 2004 qualifiers, and both the matches ended in favour of Czech Republic.

Czech Republic produced a very clinical performance in Prague to secure all three points against Poland. The Locomotive raced to a 2-0 lead inside the opening three minutes through Ladislav Krejci and Tomas Cvancara, before Jan Kuchta tripled the lead in the 64th-minute. It was a much needed win for Jaroslav Cilhavy’s side, who entered the contest on the back of a four game losing streak in the competitive action. However, Friday’s victory leaves them big favourites now to progress, with the top two guaranteed a spot in the finals. The other teams in the group are Poland, Albania, Moldova and Faroe Islands. Poland are expected to give a tough fight to the Czechs.
Moldova, on the other hand, shared the spoils against the Faroe Islands last time out, courtesy of Ion Nicolaescu’s 87th-minute equaliser from the penalty spot. The result extended their unbeaten run to four competitive games, while the other three Nations League games had ended in victories. Selectionata will be looking to avoid finishing bottom of their section again after doing so in the qualification for both the Euro 2016 and Euro 2020.
