Mansfield secured a dramatic draw against Stockport in their last outing at Edgeley Park, thanks to Lucas Akins’s equaliser three minutes into the injury time. Their last win came against AFC Wimbledon (3-1) on March 4, courtesy of goals from Riley Harbottle, Danny Johnson and KD Davis. Nigel Clough’s side have now recorded 16 league-wins this season. But, the Stags’ home record has not been great this term, collecting 26 points from a possible 48 at One Call Stadium. Meanwhile, Mansfield have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four outings, during which they were thrashed 5-2 by seventh-placed Salford City.
Grimsby, on the other hand, earned promotion to the EFL last season and have enjoyed decent first campaign in the fourth tier so far, while they were impressive in the FA Cup, reaching the quarter-finals and becoming only the sixth team in history, from the English fourth tier or lower, to enter the last eight stage of the tournament. Although, the Mariners suffered a humiliating loss to Premier League club Brighton in the fifth round and exited the cup competition, they can be proud of their fairytale run. Prior to that, Paul Hurst’s side edged past Sutton United in the League Two, thanks to Michee Efete’s lone goal in the first half. It was their second consecutive 1-0 win and12th fourth tier victory of the season. Meanwhile, Grimsby secured a 2-0 win against Mansfield in their previous meeting back in September in the EFL Trophy at Blundell Park.
