The reigning Premier League champions Manchester City will host EFL Championship-leaders Burnley in the FA Cup quarter finals at Etihad Stadium on Saturday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a dominant 7-0 Champions League-win over RB Leipzig on Tuesday night, while Burnley defeated Hull City 3-1 in the second tier, a day later. Meanwhile former Man City captain Vincent Kompany will be returning to familiar territory, this time as the head coach of arguably the best performing team in the English second tier. Pep Guardiola’s side are aiming to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup for a fifth consecutive year, while the Clarets are bidding to reach the last four for the first time since the 1973-74 campaign.

Man City are in stunning form, having won their last five games in all competitions, scoring an incredible 17 goals and conceding only one during that period. On Tuesday, Pep Guardiola’s side put seven goals past Leipzig in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie and progressed to the quarter-finals with an 8-1 aggregate win. Norwegian striker Erling Haaland scored a record-breaking five goals, while Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin de Bruyne netted one goal each for the Cityzens at Etihad Stadium. Guardiola’s side are currently occupying second spot in the English top tier standings, having collected 61 points from 27 games, just five shy of leaders Arsenal. Winning the treble remains in Man City’s reach this term and they will be aiming to book a place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup when they host the Clarets on Saturday.
Burnley, on the other hand, will be looking to cause an upset when they travel to Manchester in the weekend. Kompany has done a fabulous job to transform Burnely into a free-flowing attack-minded side since joining this summer. Burnley’s second tier record of 24 wins, 11 draws and just two defeats from 34 games this season so far has been very impressive to say the least. The Clarets are currently sitting at the summit of the Championship standings, with 83 points to their name, 13 clear of the chasing pack. The Clarets are unbeaten in their last 18 games across all competitions. Last time out, Kompany’s side secured all three points against Hull at MKM Stadium, thanks to Nethan Tella’s hat-trick.
Man City have no injury or suspension concerns for Saturday’s game, but Guardiola is likely to rotate his squad because of the hectic schedule. Julian Alvarez might come into the starting eleven, joining Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden up front. Stefan Ortega has been City’s Cup-goalkeeper throughout this season and is expected to replace first-choice keeper Ederson between the sticks. As for Burnley, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Josj Brownhill and Darko Churlinov will miss the game against Man City because of fitness issues. Ashley Barnes is expected to lead the line, with Tella and Zaroury in support.
Manchester City Probable line-up: Ortega, Lewis, Stones, Laporte, Ake, De Bruyne, Phillips, Bernardo, Mahrez, Alvarez, Foden
Burnley Probable line-up: Peacock-Farrell, Roberts, Ekdal, Beyer, Maatsen, Cork, Cullen, Zaroury, Gudmundsson, Tella, Barnes
