In the Premier League match at Anfield, Liverpool dominated Manchester United. They took the lead just before half-time when Andy Robertson played an impressive through ball to Cody Gakpo, who scored from inside the area. Liverpool doubled their lead early in the second half when Harvey Elliot’s cross found Darwin Nunez’s header. Just three minutes later, Mohamed Salah set up Gakpo for his second goal, making it four goals in eight Premier League matches for the new signing. Liverpool’s fourth goal came on the 66th minute when Salah scored after Nunez’s through ball was deflected by Scott McTominay.

The Reds added their fifth goal just nine minutes later with Nunez scoring again from a pinpoint cross by Jordan Henderson. Salah then became Liverpool’s top Premier League goal scorer of all time on 83 minutes after Luke Shaw’s poor clearance deflected off Roberto Firmino and set up the star winger. Firmino completed Liverpool’s 7-0 victory just five minutes later when Salah provided his second assist with a pass from the right.

Liverpool have hit seven, Liverpool have hit heaven

Liverpool handed Manchester United a devastating loss as Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salah scored two goals each in a record-breaking 7-0 victory at Anfield on Sunday. The win boosted Liverpool’s hopes of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League. United, who were in third place, had been performing well until this match, winning the Carabao Cup and hinting at a possible title push. However, Liverpool recorded their biggest-ever margin of victory in this fixture, completely overwhelming their arch-rivals. Although United looked marginally better for the first 43 minutes, Liverpool’s excellent performance saw Gakpo score the opening goal. Shortly after the restart, Liverpool secured a comfortable victory as Darwin scored with a header and Salah scored twice. Nunez added a fifth goal with a header, Salah scored his record 129th Premier League goal for the club, and Roberto Firmino added a seventh goal after coming off the bench.

This result came as a major surprise given the reversal of fortunes for the two clubs since Liverpool thrashed United 4-0 at Anfield in April 2022. Liverpool’s fourth win in five league matches lifted them above Newcastle United into fifth place on 42 points, just three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand. Meanwhile, United’s defeat left them in third place with 49 points, 14 points off the league leaders Arsenal, who have played a game more. According to Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson,” this was a fantastic day for everyone, and the team’s performance level from every single player was top quality.” Liverpool’s previous biggest win over United was a 7-1 victory in 1895 when both clubs were in the second tier.
