Kazakhstan had a fruitful UEFA Nations League campaign in 2022, recording four wins and a draw from six games to collected 13 points and finish at the top of League C Group 3. The Hawks secured impressive wins against Slovakia, both home and away, during the group stage. Meanwhile Magomed Adiyev’s side ended the year, with back-to-back defeats against Uzbekistan and UAE. Last time out, Kazakhstan lost to UAE at Al Nahyan Stadium despite the fact that Abat Aimbetov got on the scoresheet. It was a spirited performance from the Hawks in Abu Dhabi but they were able to muster up only two shots on target all game, and an improved performance will be needed against Kekci on Thursday.
Slovenia, on the other hand, have qualified for three major international tournaments over the years, playing at the European Championship in 2000, as well as two World Cup’s in 2002 and 2010. Kekci are heading into the match on the back of a six-game unbeaten run in all competitions. Matjaz Kek’s side were previously involved in two friendlies in November, winning both the games, against Romania and Montenegro. Miha Zajc’s lone goal in the first-half handed Slovenia the win against Montenegro.
