Inter finished their group stage in Europe with three wins, one draw and two defeats in six outings. Both their defeats came against Bayern, while Simone Inzaghi’s side edged past Barca 1-0 in the home leg, before playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Camp Nou. Nerazzuri thrashed Viktoria Plzen 4-0 in their final group match to seal second spot. Meanwhile Inter have been in stunning form since the turn of the year, having lost just once in their last 11 games across all competitions in Italy. Inter are currently sitting at the second spot in the Italian top flight standings with 47 points to their name, fifteen adrift of leaders Napoli. Last time out, Inzaghi’s side defeated Udinese, courtesy of Ronelu Lukaku’s opener from the penalty spot, and second-half efforts from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Lautaro Martinez. It was their 15th top flight victory of the season.
Porto, on the other hand, are also occupying second position in the Portuguese Primeira Liga table, having collected 51 points from 21 matches, five adrift of leaders Benfica. Toni Martinez’s lone goal helped Dragoes secure a narrow 1-0 win over Rio Ave in their last outing. Meanwhile, when it comes to the Champions League, the Blue and Whites started off with back-to-back defeats in their opening two games, before winning each of their next four to progress as group-winners, ahead of Club Brugge, Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid. Sergi Conceicao’s side defeated Atletico 2-1 in their final group-match, thanks to first-half efforts from Mehdi Taremi and Stephen Eustaquio.
