Crystal Palace are yet to register their first win in any competition since the turn of the year. Last time out, Patrick Vieira’s side shared the spoils against Brentford, despite taking the lead through Eberechi Eze’s 69th-minute effort. The Bees snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat courtesy of Vitaly Janelt’s dramatic equaliser five minutes into the injury time. The result extended Palace’s winless run to eight consecutive games across all competitions. Despite the poor run of form, Eagles are still six points clear of the relegation zone. Nevertheless, four draws from their last five has demonstrated a more resilient streak about the Glaziers, whose only defeat in that time was a narrow 2-1 loss away to Manchester United.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have won each of their last two league games, against Everton and Newcastle United, with a similar scoreline of 2-0. Last Saturday, the Reds defeated fifth-placed Newcastle at St James’ Park, courtesy of first-half efforts from Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo. However, Liverpool’s celebration’s didn’t last long as Real Madrid fought back from two goals down to secure a 5-2 win in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday. Nunez and Mohamed Salah sent the home side into the 2-0 lead in the opening 15 minutes, before braces from Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema either side of Eder Militao’s header handed Liverpool their biggest European defeat at Anfield.
