Borussia Dortmund will travel to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday aiming to earn a place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. The Bundesliga outfit secured a narrow 1-0 win over the Blues in the first leg of their last-16 tie in Germany last month, thanks to Karim Adeyemi’s sensational solo effort in the 63rd-minute. A combination of Gregor Kobel, the woodwork and a brilliant goal-line clearance by Emre Can  kept the Premier League outfit at bay. Meanwhile both sides are heading into the match on the back of victories in their respective league outings, with the hosts edging past Leeds United 1-0 in the English top flight, while Dortmund secured a 2-1 Bundesliga-win over RB Leipzig.

Chelsea’s victory over Leeds was their first triumph in their last seven outings in all competitions. Wesley Fofana’s 53rd-minute effort separated the two sides in London and handed the Blues their ninth league-win of the campaign. However, Graham Potter’s side are languishing at the 10th spot in the Premier League standings, with 34 points to their name, 11 adrift of the top-four. The 2021 Champions League-winners are on the brink of exiting Europe’s elite club football competition in the last-16 stage for the fifth time in nine seasons.

Dortmund, on the other hand, are in stunning form since the turn of the year, having won each of their last ten outings across all competitions. Last time out, BVB got the better of Leipzig at home, courtesy of first-half efforts from Marco Reus and Emre Can. It was Dortmund’s 16th league-win of the season, taking their points tally to 49 from 23 league-games, level on points with Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.  Meanwhile BVB have lost their last five European battles in London since beating Arsenal 2-1 in 2013.
