Blackburn Rovers will be looking to extend their winning run to five games in all competitions when they host Sheffield United in an EFL Championship fixture at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of FA Cup fifth round victories in the mid-week, with the hosts getting the better of Leicester City 2-1, while the Blades edged past Tottenham Hotspur 1-0. Meanwhile, when it comes to the second tier standings, the visitors are occupying second spot, having collected 64 points from 33 games, 12 adrift of the leaders Burnley and nine clear of the Rovers, who have played an extra game, and are sitting at the fourth position.

Blackburn are in stunning form, having not tasted defeat in their last eight matches across all competitions, while winning five of those games.Last time out, the Rovers got the better of Leicester at King Power Stadium, courtesy of goals from Tyryhs Dolan and Sammie Szmodics. The Blue and Whites will be meeting Saturday’s opponents in the last-8 stage of the Cup competition later this month. The Riversiders’ last league-win came against Queens Park Rangers(3-1) last Saturday, thanks to Sam Gallagher’s brace and one goal from Szmodics. It was their 17th second tier victory of the season.

Sheffield United, on the other hand, had a brief dark patch last month, having lost back-to-back games against fellow promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough and Millwall. But Paul Heckingbottom’s side managed to return to winning ways against Watford last weekend. They are now comfortably holding on to the second and final automatic qualification spot, with a seven point lead over third-placed Middlesbrough. Last Saturday, the Blades secured a narrow 1-0 win over Watford in the league, courtesy of Ryan Porteous’ own goal in the second half. After that, Sheffield United hosted Champions League qualification challengers Tottenham in the FA Cup on Wednesday and prevailed 1-0, through Iliman Ndiaye’s solo goal, eleven minutes from time.
