Bayer Leverkusen will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host Hertha Berlin in a Bundesliga fixture at Bay Arena on Sunday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw away to Freiburg last Sunday, while Hertha defeated Augsburg 2-0, a day earlier. The victory helped the visitors to get out of the relegation zone and move to 14th spot in the German top flight standings, having collected 20 points from 22 games, just one clear of the drop zone. Leverkusen, meanwhile, are sitting at the 11th position, with 38 points to their name, ten adrift of the European qualification spot.
🗯️ @XabiAlonso: “At the moment @HerthaBSC_EN is in good form. The wins against Gladbach and Augsburg were good for them. They also played well against Dortmund. Of course they’re in a difficult situation, but they’re in a good mood.”

Leverkusen have collected only four points from their last five league games. Last time out, Xabi Alonso’s side came from behind to earn a point against Freiburg at Europa-Park Stadion, thanks to Sardar Azmoun’s 67th-minute equaliser. Prior to that, Xabi Alonso’s side overcame Monaco over two legs to reach the last-16 stage of the Europa League. After the game against Hertha, the black and Reds will host Hungarian champions Ferencvaros in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie on March 9.
Hertha on the other hand, are left with only the Bundesliga to focus on. After enduring a miserable run of seven defeats in eight league games, Hertha have bounced back with two wins from their last three outings. Last time out, Sandro Schwarz’s side put two goals past Augsburg without reply, courtesy of second half efforts from Marco Richter and Dude Lukebakio. It was their fifth league-win of the season. Meanwhile, the Old Lady’s away form hasn’t been very great, having lost eight of their 10 matches on the road in the Bundesliga so far this season.
Leverkusen players Charles Aranguiz and Andrey Lunev are sidelined with injuries, while the rest of the squad is fit and ready to go. Azmoun will continue to spearhead the attack, with Wirtz and Diaby in support. As for Hertha, the likes of Wilfried Kanga, Chidera Ejuke, Kelian Nsona and Rune Jarstein are occupying the treatment room.
Bayer Leverkusen probable line-up: Hradecky, Tapsoba, Tah, Hincapie, Frimpong, Andrich, Palacios, Bakker, Wirtz, Diaby, Azmoun
Hertha Berlin Probable line-up: Christensen, Rogel, Uremovic, Dardai, Richter, Tousart, Cigerci, Serdar, Plattenhardt, Lukebakio, Niederlechner
