Barnsley were relegated from the Championship last season, having finished at the bottom of the 24-team table. But the Tykes are now bidding to bounce back into the second tier at the first time of asking, as the team are in the playoff mix at this stage. The Colliers secured all three points against Wycombe in their last outing, thanks to Slodoban Tadic’s lone goal five minutes from time. The result extended their unbeaten run to 11 games in the third tier, while winning nine of them. Michael Duff’s side have now recorded 21 wins , six draws and eight defeats from 35 league-matches this season.
Wednesday, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last 25 league-games, while winning 16 of them. The Owls’ last defeat came against Plymouth way back on October 5. Darren Moore’s side shared the spoils against Bolton in their last outing, despite taking the lead through Lee Gregory’s 11th-minute effort. Wednesday are three points away from Ipsiwch in third, with two games in hand, so at this stage they are in pole position to earn promotion to the second tier. The Owls finished fourth in League One last season, which saw them qualify for the playoffs, but they were beaten by Sunderland in the semi-finals.
