Barcelona will be desperate to get back to winning ways in the La Liga when they host Valencia at Camp Nou on Sunday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a hard-fought 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final tie in the mid-week, while Valencia, secured a league-win over Real Sociedad with an identical scoreline, last Sunday. The hosts are currently occupying top spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 59 points from 23 games, seven clear of the chasing pack. Los Che, meanwhile, are languishing at the 18th position, with just 23 points to their name, two adrift of safety.

Last month was not great for Barca, having been knocked out of the Europa League playoff by Manchester United and then suffered a shock defeat to a lowly Almeria in the league, last weekend. However, Xavi’s side returned to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 win in the El Clasico on Thursday night. Blaugrana went to Santiago Bernabeu for the first leg of their Copa del Rey last 4 tie without some of their key players- Robert Lewandowski, Pedri and Ousmane Dembele. But Eder Militao’s own goal mid-way through the first half proved the difference in Madrid and gave Barca an all important edge in the two-legged contest. The Catalan outfit now have four straight top flight games against Valencia, Athletic Bilbao, Real Madrid and Elche, before welcoming Los Blancos for the second leg of their semi-final in the Cup competition.

Valencia, on the other hand, have already been knocked out of the Copa del Rey and are left with only the La Liga to focus on. Los Che have won six, drawn five and lost 12 of their 23 league games this season. Their latest win came against third-placed Real Sociedad last Sunday. Igor Zubeldia’s own goal in the 40th-minute separated the two sides at Mestalla. Meanwhile Valencia’s away record has been pretty poor this term, having lost each of their last five top flight matches on the road, while scoring only eight times on their travels in the league.
