Austria will be aiming to continue their perfect start to the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying campaign when they host Estonia at Raiffeisen Arena on Monday night. Das Team secured a comfortable 4-1 win over Azerbaijan in their opening match of Group F on Friday, while Estonia didn’t play a competitive match. The victory helped Ralf Rangnick’s side to take an early lead in the standings, level on three points with second-placed Belgium but separated by a superior goal-difference. Meanwhile, these two nations have faced each other only two times before and that was during the World Cup qualification campaign in 1997. Austria ran out comfortable winners on both the occasions.

Austria made a perfect start to their quest to qualify for the finals of the continental competition in Germany. Das Team secured all three points against Azerbaijan thanks to Marcel Sabitzer’s brace and one goal each from Michael Gregoritsch and Christoph Baumgartner. It was a dominant performance from Rangnick’s side as they created 25 goals-scoring chances and recorded 12 shots on target, compared to just three attempts on target by Milli. It was Austria’s third consecutive win, having recorded back-to-back victories in friendlies against Andorra (0-1) and Italy (2-0) in November last year. With Belgium being the favourites to secure top spot in Group F, Austria and Sweden are expected to battle for the second automatic qualifying spot behind the Red Devils.
Estonia, on the other hand, lost to Hungary in a friendly on Thursday, courtesy of Martin Adam’s lone goal in the 41st-minute. Thomas Haberli’s side gave a good account of themselves at Puskas Arena, recording 11 shots, three of which were on target, but failed to find the back of the net. Estonia, have never qualified for the finals of a major tournament and collected just one point from their eight Euro 2020 qualifying games.
