Atletico Madrid will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to 10 games in the La Liga when they host Valencia at Metropolitano on Saturday night. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of 1-0 win’s in their last outings, with the hosts edging past Girona, while Valencia got the better of Osasuna. Atletico are currently occupying third spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 48 points from 25 games, eight adrift of second-placed Real Madrid. The visitors, meanwhile, are languishing at the 17th position, with just 26 points to their name, level on points with 18th-placed Getafe in the battle to stay in the league.

Since the 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey quarter-final on January 26, Atleti are undefeated in their next seven outings in the league, while winning five of those games. On Monday, Diego Simeone’s side secured a dramatic win against Girona at Montilivi, thanks to Alvaro Morata’s lone goal six minutes into the injury time. It was their 14th league-win of the season. Meanwhile, Los Colchoneros are left with only the La Liga to compete in, having finished at the bottom of their Champions League group to get knocked out of the European stage, before getting eliminated from the Copa del Rey by Los Blancos. The absence of Cup football seems to have helped them in the league, with the Red and Whites gaining strong grip on the top four position, as they are currently sitting six-points clear of fifth-placed Real Betis.
Valencia, who have not played outside the Spain’s top flight since 1987, are battling relegation this time around. Los Che have lost seven of their ten league-games since the turn of the year. Meanwhile, their two top flight wins this year came against Real Sociedad and Osasuna in the space of last three weeks. Ruben Baraja’s side beat Real Sociedad 1-0 at the end of February before narrowly losing to leaders Barcelona. Valencia returned to winning ways last Sunday, courtesy of Justin Kluivert’s lone goal in the second half. Meanwhile Los Che have the third-worst away record in the Spanish top flight this season, only picking up six points from 12 matches on the road.
