Armenia had a disastrous 2022 year, losing seven of their last ten games in all competitions, while recording only two wins during that period. After managing to secure only a fourth place finish in the World Cup qualification Group J, the Mountaineers finished at the bottom of League B Group 1 in the UEFA Nations League. Eagles recorded just one win from their six Nations League-games to collect three points and have been relegated from League B. After that, Artsviner ended the year with two friendlies in November, drawing the first one 2-2 against Kosovo, before losing 2-0 to Albania.
Turkey, on the other hand, missed the ticket to Qatar World Cup after losing 3-1 to Portugal in the qualification playoff. However, after the disappointment of missing out on the World Cup finals, the Crescent-Stars won their first four Nations League-games, that included dominant wins against Faroe Islands (4-0) and Lithuania (6-0). Turkey secured top spot in League C Group 1, having collected 13 points from six games. After that, Stefan Kuntz side recorded two consecutive friendly wins in November, against Scotland and Czech Republic. Last time out, the Crescent-Stars got the better of Czech Republic, courtesy of goals from Enes Unal and Hakan Calhanoglu. Meanwhile, Saturday fixture will be Turkey’s first match since the devastating earthquake which struck the country last month.
