New signing Sergio Ramos believes that Paris Saint-Germain are not far away from winning their first Champions League title as he feels that the players have a real thirst for winning. Despite dominating the league in recent years, the French giants have struggled to land the Europe’s premier club competition trophy. They did reach the 2020 final, but lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich. Their new signing Ramos, who has lifted the trophy four times during his 16-year career at Real Madrid, believes they are close to achieving that feat.

“What I noticed the most about this club is its strength,” Sergio Ramos told PSG TV. “The thirst for winning that the players have. They want to come to a club like this. They have already played in the Champions League final, they are very close to being able to win it and that is something that attracts me. It can only be a perfect marriage. If I can contribute to it, that would be wonderful for me. It is a dream to think about win my fifth Champions League and the first for our club.”

PSG will be looking to reclaim the Ligue 1 title they lost to Lille last season along with a European success in the new season. Inter full-back Achraf Hakimi, who was also with Real Madrid earlier in his career, was signed by the French giants earlier in this window.

‘Same motivation’

Earlier, Sergio Ramos went on to explain how he carries his day-to-day work. “I start each season with the same motivation, I challenge myself each time to start from scratch and I have the same determination each time, the same desire to win. That is what I will do here too. I want to do things with a lot of humility, with a lot of hard work, with a lot of effort and a lot of commitment. That’s what I think defines me best,” he added.

Speaking about the qualities he brings to the squad, Ramos added, “I think I bring experience and maturity. I’m a hard worker, I like to be consistent and I have a strong sense of sacrifice. That’s what I’ve achieved throughout my career, and I’ll try to give my best to try and bring as many titles here as possible.”

“We are part of a club that wants to win everything. Afterwards, football is not an exact science, there are always details that make you win or lose a match… But we have to give our best to not have any regrets, to give everything on the pitch, that’s also what defines this team and this club. We always have to aim big. We are here to give everything and win everything.”

Ramos also spoke about this journey in his life which he feels will allow him to grow in his career. “It’s a club that belongs to the elite of European football, it’s a club that works hard to succeed, it’s a success story. It’s a young club but it’s growing. There are great players in the squad, it’s a chance for me to grow personally and professionally,” he added.
